MFG Concept (MFGコンセプト "MFG Konseputo") is a project organised in 2019 by Young Magazine with a goal of creating cars that could theoretically compete in MFG. The cars are built and tuned in GR Garage with support from various aftermarket parts manufacturers and are supervised by Japanese professional racing drivers. One of main principles of the project is to stick to MFG's regulations, namely the "grip to weight ratio" rule.
Despite using red Toyota 86's with "86" stickers on the side, the project isn't aimed towards creating replicas of Kanata's car, using it as inspiration instead.

MFG Concept 2019[]

2019 concept car was created to commemorate first million copies of manga sold and was unveiled at Tokyo Auto Salon 2019 at MF Ghost booth.[1] The car was later displayed at various branches of GR Garage, NAGOYA Auto Trend 2019, Fuji 86 STYLE festival and other events. It was also featured an 86&BRZ magazine.
A giveaway was held with the car as a prize. It hit a total of 259,419 entries and the winner was a man from Komaki. [1]
The project was advised by Juichi Wakisaka and Tetsuya Yamano.

The car was built in GR Garage Master One.
The car was sold during FUJI 86 BRZ STYLE festival for a price of 3,404,000 yen. (actual cost of the project over 5,6 million yen).[7]
Part of an interview with Manabu Orido (project advisor) [8]:
- First of all, what is your overall belief in the GR86 MFG Concept?
Orido: The main point is that the car is designed to be the "fastest on the street", so it is not too circuit-oriented and anyone can use the same menu. Our theme is to collect the latest good products from tuning parts manufacturers around the world, mainly from Japan, and match them with this car.
- You mentioned that the GR86 has become a better car, but against such a base, what exactly has the GR86 MFG Concept improved?
Orido: We are not increasing the engine power this time, but it is the total potential increase by combining these parts, so the handling is better, the braking performance is better and the driver can hold the car better. In total, we have everything we want in a situation in the MFG driving scene. There are no more uncertain elements.
For example, in terms of braking, the increased size of the brakes has improved controllability where the normal brakes would inevitably make noise when driving downhill at full throttle.
And then there is the Suspension. The stock Suspension is not bad, but it has a lower limit performance, whereas (in the GR86 MFG Concept) the Suspension has a higher limit performance.
Then there are the tyres. They are equipped with Yokohama AD09 tyres, which also provide stable handling with no loss of grip right to the end. The clutch does not increase engine power, but it improves engine response and drive performance, such as the feeling when shifting up.
- In your position as project advisor, what requests did you have for the car?
Orido: For example, I didn't have any problems with the choice of tyres, and it was so smooth that I didn't have any requests, but this tyre is also one that I test and make, so the timing was right, in the sense that it came out at the same time as the car, and it was really perfect for the situation with this car. It was a tyre that really suited the situation of this car. It's a tyre that's not too close to the circuit, but more like a sports tyre, so it's a tyre that's designed to be enjoyed in a sporty way.
The seat is also new and the timing was very good. The Suspension is new, but when I used it myself, I found it to be very controllable, cost-effective and usable in multiple situations. In that sense, everything matches. Personally, though, I'd like to put some bigger tyres on it (laughs).

The car is Toyota GR86 (ZN8). Some parts used on previous generations of the project weren't available for the new model.
