The Rainy Gloom (雨の憂うつ "Ame no yūutsu") is the sixty-third chapter of MF Ghost.
Summary[]
On the night of the final qualifyers, Fumihiro notices that the top 2 finishers both broke Keisuke's fastest lap around the course, noting that he put everything he had into that super lap 4 years ago. Fumihiro also aks Yamashita what the weather would be like for the race at Ashinoko GT, with him noting that there's a high chance of raining. Fumihiro breathes a sigh at MFG races in the rain can be difficult, so they should prepare themselves. Fumihiro then remembers that Takumi Fujiwara was also good at the rain when he was a member of Project D, so he wonders if his student has inherited that skill as well.
On the intermission day between the qualifiers and the race, rain began pouring down since morning. Ogata notes that FR (Front-Engined, Rear-Wheel-Drive) cars are at a disadvantage compared to All-Wheel-Drive and Mid-Engined cars in wet weather, and phones Okuyama to get the 86's dampers prepared for the race. At the same time, Kanata is working throughout the day at the cafe, and Ren is studying at school, wondering if she will need to perform and run the scoreboard during the rain.
The day of the Ashinoko GT race begins, with it still downporing. Yoji Tanaka greets all 31.2 million MFG fans to Round 2, and introduces his co-host for today's race, Ryuji Ikeda, the chairman of the Zero Academy, a head of Odawara's city council, and a priest at his buddist temple.
As Ogata fine-tunes the 86's dampers, Kanata notes that the rain stopped at the bottom of the mountains, but is still continuing at the top, with Ogata saying that it's normal in Hakone. Kanata then wonders why Ogata's feeling down, with Ogata saying that the stress of Kanata racing in rain in an FR car is killng his stomach, however, Kanata says that the rain will be more like an ally to him, rather than a hinderance, as it affects all 15 drivers in the race.
The MFG Angels finish up there mini-concert and rush over to the tents to dry off. At the same time, the drivers exit out of the bus and enter there cars, with Kanata and Aiba giving Aiba good luck before the race begins. At the booth, Ogata reminds Kanata to use the towel in his 86 to dry his shoes so that he can get maximum grip on the pedals.
There's only 5 minutes until the start of the race.
