The Pride of a Ruler (王者のプライド "Ōja no puraido") is the sixty-first chapter of MF Ghost.
Summary[]
Michael Beckenbauer continues his qualifying run of the Ashinoko GT course, being just 0.2 seconds behind Kouki Sawatari. Beckenbauer notes that he won't resort to any crazy moves similar to Kanata's drifting, and Tanaka wonders if him sticking to being behind Sawatari is a strategic thing to do. Beckenbauer's booth representative says that he's now 0.15 seconds behind #4 on the last checkpoint, with Beckenbauer noting that he can see the Alpine in-front of him despite it not being there, and notes that he won't go into top gear until the final uphill sector, as he won't be happy if anyone else gets the top time other than him. During this, a few viewers are stunned that the 2 fastest cars that are fighting for dominance on the course are a Cayman and Alpine, which is a far cry from the "Rich Man's Game" MFG was known for back then.
At the same time, Sawatari is watching Beckenbauer's run at a Starbucks in Shibuya, noting about Beckenbauer's pettiness but is ok about giving him pole just to break his confidence in the race, as he views Beckenbauer as a boring racer, and argues that Kanata is more terrifying as he has no limits, which can be seen as Kanata qualified in provisional 9th with a Toyota 86 GT. Sana soon meets up with Sawatari and they'll first go to the hotel for there date.
Beckenbauer continues his run with him still being 0.3 seconds behind Sawatari's time. The Cayman rockets down the Relay Straight and begins climbing up the final sector of the course in top gear, with Beckenbauer finally receiving a Focus Flag. Beckenbauer then passes by Sawatari's time, being the only driver who's so far managed to beat his time on the course.
