The Night Before (出走前夜 "Shussō zen'ya") is the fifty-fifth chapter of MF Ghost.
Summary[]
Kaito Akaba continues his qualifying run for the Ashinoko GT race, with Akaba saying that MFG is "kill, or be killed", and notes that the weakest drivers will go down first. Meanwhile, at Ogata Cars, Kanata tells Ogata that the Ferrari's doing its run, and notes that the top ranked drivers do there runs earlier. Ogata then says that it's another perk for qualifying high, as an accident on the track interrupts the time trials, and thus delays your start, so starting earlier makes you immune to scheduling problems. Ogata then tells Kanata that the Ashinoko qualifiers get delayed la lot due to the slippery death zone, as yesterday, 5 crashes occurred there, and the last car started a hour and a half after its scheduled time. Ogata then reminds Kanata to be careful when running there, but notices that Kanata isn't feeling pressured at all. Kanata says to Ogata that he never feels pressured as he's been in more races that he can count, especially due to him being a challenger in MFG, so if anything, he's excited, which worries Ogata.
The fifth day of qualifying continues with Marie Sawamura on duty for Jackson Taylor's qualifying run. Taylor notes that this season has been weirdly tense since the opening round, as there's no room for mistakes, but you can't play it safe either, and the moment he goes on the defensive, he's out of the Divine Fifteen. Taylor also notes that he's never been this pressured going into a qualifying run before. Day 5 of qualifying ends, with Akaba qualifying in 2nd, whilst Taylor qualifies in 5th.
At the Saionji residence, Mayuko asks Kanata if he wants anymore coffee, with Kanata declining as it's getting late. Ren also heads up as she wants to prepare for school on Monday, and Mayuko tells them both to not stay up too late. Meanwhile, Mr. Saionji notes that Kanata is totally relaxed despite his qualifier being tomorrow, and notes that he doesn't need to worry about telling Kanata about it. Kanata then prepares for the Ashinoko GT course, memorising the layout in his head.
