The Shakedown (シェイクダウン "Sheikudaun") is the fourty-ninth chapter of MF Ghost.
Summary[]
Kanata and Ogata stop by the Daikanzan Observation Deck on the top of the Hakone Turnpike in order for Ogata to catch his breath. Ogata is shocked at the speed that the "Divine Fifteen" drivers race at, with Ogata noting that Kanata didn't brake at all especially due to Okuyama's new upgrades on the 86. Kanata then tells Ogata that he doesn't brake on the uphill sections, as the car naturally loses speed between the entry and the apex, and that he only went about 80% of his pace due to Ogata being in the passenger seat, which shocks Ogata even more. Kanata then asks Ogata why they aren't allowed to drive on the Ashinoko GT course, especially since it's a "bone's throw" away (with Ogata correcting Kanata, as the correct term is a "stone's throw"). Ogata then explains that the Ashinoko GT course mostly uses restricted public roads, meaning that nobody's allowed to drive on it until the qualifiers begin, thus meaning veterans have a bigger advantage on the course compared to rookies.
Kanata heads out for a few extra laps on the Turnpike at full throttle, but as he leaves, a Blue Alpine A110 comes out of another parking lot and follows the 86, with Ogata noting that it may be chasing after Kanata. Kanata is shocked at how much the 86 has improved with Okuyama's modifications, noting at the responsiveness of the car due to its improved brakes and suspension. Suddenly during Kanata's test run, the A110 catches up to the 86 and overtakes it on the inside, shocking Kanata. Kanata then recalls a piece of advice that Takumi Fujiwara said, as getting emotional behind the wheel could lead to mistakes. Kanata then sees why the Alpine A110 is ranked No.4 from last year, as Kouki Sawatari is pleased that he ran into Kanata again.
