Okuyama's Skills (奥川の手腕 "Okuyama no shuwan") is the fourty-eighth chapter of MF Ghost.
Summary[]
At Spiral Zero, Okuyama's team begins preparing the 86 with the modifications for Ashinoko GT. Okuyama says to Ogata that suspension tuned for racetracks will not work on MFG's road courses, as you'll need a suspension setup with a smooth stroke to hold out even after the tires have lost grip. Okuyama then notes that the front brake rotors on the 86 have became wobbly, which shocks Ogata as they were in perfect condition before. Okuyama then says that the brakes became warped as the cooling system couldn't keep up with Kanata's driving, as such, they'll be installing more heat-resistant 6-pot brakes on the front to boost its braking power and durability. Okuyama then notes that Ogata was disappointed when he said that the 86 will be getting power upgrades for later rounds, which proves that Ogata personally doesn't really get that even a good suspension setup can make a car faster without any power upgrades. Okuyama then recalls that his shop help a challenge to see how fast they can go around Tsukuba Circuit by tuning every part of the car besides the engine. Okuyama then says that he doesn't compromise on tuning the car's suspension, and that the 86 will be more faster after the modifications are complete.
At the same time, Kanata and Ren visit another shrine, and spot a group of Ajisai/Hydrangea flowers nearby, with Kanata hoping to return to the area once they bloom. Kanata then notes that whilst his main goal is to still find the site of the photograph, he wants to visit other places as well, with Ren taking Kanata on a tour throughout Kamakura.
Back at Spiral Zero, Ogata notes that they're also replacing the muffler on the 86, with Okuyama saying that the air-intake and exhaust systems act in-tandem, and simply switching out the air filter won't do anything to make the 86 go faster. Okuyama also says that they'll be also installing a Throttle Controller to increase the car's response to help out Kanata in the next race. Okuyama is then stunned that Kanata managed to haul the 86 up so high in the rankings without the help of any intense modifications, and notes that he even surpassed his mentor, Takumi Fujiwara.
Kanata then takes the new 86 out for a test drive on the Hakone Turnpike, with Ogata scared for life on how fast Kanata is driving.
