Battle for the Long Straight (ロングストレートの攻防 "Rongusutorēto no kōbō") is the twenty-seventh chapter of MF Ghost.
Summary[]
Tanaka asks Kai a question if Kanata and Beckenbauer have similar driving styles due to them both being raised in Europe. Kai then goes onto explain the differences between the 2 drivers. On one hand, Beckenbauer was trained on an elite level, thus making him more like a precision machine. On the other hand, Kanata was trained via private lessons on the off-hand, thus making him more of a mutation who can always grow. Kai then states that in his current state, Kanata cannot challenge the leaders due to the 86's lack of power, but Kai hopes that Kanata can use this race to improve on for the future. Tanaka then says that both of them are viable candidates for the next generation of MFG.
Back at the Odawara Pikes Peak, Kanata suddenly makes a move on the outside of Kakeru's Exige. Kakeru attempt to avoid being overtaken, but the Traction Control system on his Exige kicks in, thus allowing Kanata to pass by him and take 11th place. Kai then says that Kanata always takes opportunities to pass rivals at places where even the most experience racers cannot, like he has a sixth sense. Nozomi then scolds Kakeru for failing to keep his position, with Kakeru saying that he's gonna deliver payback to him. Kakeru then tells Yamatani how much leeway they got, with him saying that the duo has a 4.2 second range at the Seisho Bypass Junction. Nozomi then asks Kakeru why he's so worried, with Kakeru replying that he hates losing to someone like Kanata.
Meanwhile, the Porsche Cayman and the 911 GT3 both enter the Kamaboko Straight. Ishigami notes how fast Beckenbauer is pushing to keep his Cayman in the lead on the entrance to the section, with Ishigami noting that he cannot keep up with that pace, as the Porsche Cayman uses a Strut-Based Suspension compared to the GT3's Multi-Link Setup. The MFG drones then take a detour across the Hayakawa River towards the start of Sector 1. Further behind them, Both Sakamoto and Shun enter the Kamaboko Straight, with the R8 leading over the GT-R. Tanaka says that Aiba could potentially dethrone the "Invincible German Force" with his GT-R.
