The Promise (約束 "Yakusoku") is the fifteenth chapter of MF Ghost.

Summary[]

At the Johkamachi Horumon restaurant in Odawara, Shun explains that he's seriously in-love with Angel No.7, and explains that he's ready for marriage with her, with Kanata telling Shun how romantic he is for her. Shun then promises Kanata to not date or fall in love with her, with Kanata agreeing on. Shun then explains how fun quirky girls are, and explains that he wishes that No.7 could slap him every day. Kanata then explains to Ogata how much of a "soldier" he is, with Ogata correcting him as the proper term would be "Freak", Ogata then thinks that the way No.7 slapped Kanata seems more like a couple fighting.

At the MFG headquarters in Roppongi, Fumihiro is in shock that one of the Top 15 drivers in the qualifiers were running illegal tires, and was thus disqualified. Fumihiro then states that they need to identify the tread pattern on the car who was disqualified. He then notes that #86 in 16th would be able to race in the Odawara Pikes Peak finals, with him noting that the good luck of his mentor was passed down to Kanata.

Back at the restaurant, Kanata is amazed at the Shiro Koro that was served, with Ogata and Shun explaining that it's actually pig intenstines. During this, Shun gets a notification that MFG sent out a new release of the Opening Round's qualifiers, and was shocked that Kanata would be able to race in the finals. Meanwhile, Ren is sobering in the bath tub, wondering why she slapped Kanata.

The next day, Ogata is exhausted from the announcement last night, with Kanata being perfectly fine. Ogata then inspects the tires on the 86, which are all worn out, thankfully due to Kanata's performance in the qualifiers, the tires are now free. Ogata then also explains that due to Kanata's performance, various companies have offered up parts for the 86, which is helpful due to the 86 being very customisable, and Ogata explains that they'll be able to upgrade the 86 in-time for the 2nd round at Lake Ashinoko. Kanata then requests Ogata to remove the Traction Control from the 86, as he feels like it's more of a hindrance to him then any help. He then tells Ogata that he promised to see Ren today, in-which Ogata reminisce the times that her father brought her to the shop, Ogata then asks if Kanata can bring her to his shop to see her again, in-which Kanata agrees to mention it to her.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • In the original version of the chapter, Kanata originally called Shun a "Soldier" (Heitai) instead of a "Freak" (Hentai), this was changed to a "Leek" in the Kodansha US version due to the mispronunciation being lost in translation.
  • Fujin Ishigami's name on the qualifying results is incorrectly translated as "Fuujin".
