Summary[]

As Kanata Katagiri pulls up to the start of his qualifying run in the opening round, Angel No.7 is shocked to see him as the next contender, with one of the viewers of the livestream noticing her change of expression. The countdown finishes and the 86 launches out of the starting gate, with the drone following suit.

At the Saionji Residence, both Mayuko and Mr. Saionji are suprised that Kanata entered with his father's last name of "Katagiri", since he's usually been accosiated with the last name of "Rivington". Mayuko theroises that he used that name in-order to send out a message to his father, Ken Katagiri, as Kanata came to Japan to look for him all by himself, afterwards, Mayuko leaves the living room out of fear, due to her not wanting Kanata to join MFG.

Back at the Hakone Turnpike, Ogata is making sure that the communication system is working, with Kanata responding loud and clear. Shun Aiba questions as to why Ogata applied for an assistant's booth, in-which Ogata replied that he wanted to do it right, as it seems to be a polite thing to do for Kanata. Shun is then curious as to the fact that he was able to secure a 2 digit number, as apart from #1-40, which are based of the previous year's ranking, #41 and onwards is first come, first served. Ogata replies to Shun that he was lucky to get the number "86" as nobody had claimed it when he applied for the number.

Kanata then continues his run through the opening sector of the Odawara Pikes Peak, as Shun questions to how well he would be able to do with a H-Pattern shifter, as most high performance cars use Dual-Clutch Transmissions with paddle shifters, such as Porsche's PDK system, which can instantly shift gears in 0.03 seconds. Ogata and Shun are then shocked at Kanata's current placement, as he climbs all the way to 54th in the rankings, Shun brushes it off as a system error, since Ogata's 86 wouldn't be able to climb that high up in the standings, Ogata retaliates that his 86 isn't a "crapbox", but agrees that the placement is probably a glitch.

However, as Kanata continues to climb up the Turnpike, he manages to climb up to 53rd, to which Ogata and Shun are shocked at. Ogata then notices that the 86 has put a focus flag on the #86, something that Shun thinks wasn't possible. At the commentary both, Yoji Tanaka announces that #86 has been announced a focus flag, in which the MFG Central Computer dectects the telemetry of a driver which exceptional driving skill. Tanaka then recalls that the only driver to achieve such a feat in their first race is Michael Beckenbauer in Year 3. The 86 continues up Sector 1 of the Odawara Pikes Peak course.
