Challenger from England (英国からの挑戦者 Igirisu kara no chōsen-sha) is the first chapter of MF Ghost. This chapter also serves as the first chapter of the "Round 1 Qualification and Race Arc" of the series.
Summary[]
May 202X, Odawara. A white Nissan GT-R pulls up to the starting line. As a countdown stars, the driver, Shun Aiba, is looking at a rookie MFG Angel. He makes plans in his head to win the championship prize next her and propose to her. The countdown finally ends and the car blasts off. During the race, Shun is having problems with handling his car, which keeps oversteering.
While that happens, we are introduced to the world of MFG: after car manufacturers all over the world stopped producing cars with combustion engines, a competition centered around racing traditional cars on public roads was created and gained mass popularity. Narration also explains the first course of the series, Odawara Pikes-Peak and the competition format, having a qualification and a final race stages for each round. As Shun continues his run, some viewers of the livestream give comments about him, general style of racing in MFG and it's "Rich Man's Rule".
Meanwhile, in Fujisawa, Kanata Rivington, who has just arrived in Japan, overhears those viewers while trying to find an address.
Back in Odawara, Shun has finished his run and placed a provisional 2nd, losing just 1,2 seconds to the leader. His walks off to talk to the Angel he saw earlier, but his attempts to get to know her miserably fail. The Angel immediately rejects him, but that only makes Shun more excited.
Later in the evening, Ren Saionji is going home and receives a phone call from Wakana about a guest from Britain who is going to live in Ren's house. Wakana is excited about this, while Ren disapproves her, saying that her preferences in romance are different from ther girls and that there is no love from the first sight . When she finally arrives her, we are revealed that the guest is actually Kanata, which shocks Ren while her father introduces them to each other. She runs off to her room, feeling a sense of love from the first sight. Meanwhile, downstairs Mr. Saionji and Kanata are talking about the death of Katherine, Kanata's mother.
In the morning, Ren and Wakana meet at the train station on their way to school. Wakana asks about Kanata and Ren realizes she barely knows anything about him. In the meantime, Kanata meets Ogata in his shop. Ogata shows the car he has prepared for Kanata's entry in MFG and notes that it has a manual gearbox, which Kanata is cool about. They go for a walk towards the ocean and Ogata explains various regulations of MFG, also mentioning Ryo Takahashi, mysterious organiser of the series.
